Site decription

Kerchanshe's Haro Welebu site is located in Shakiso District, known for its high-altitude terrain and conducive coffee-growing conditions.

Coffee Type

Shakiso Welebu coffee is an heirloom variety characterized by fruity flavors, small rounded beans with blueberry and spicy notes of rue, cardamom, and vanilla. It has a medium to full body and a mild to high pointed acidity.

Production

Approximately 2,700 farmers in Shakiso cultivate coffee across 5,000 hectares of land. These farmers partner with Kerchanshe Trading PLC as out-growers, contributing significantly to the local economy.

Processing

Kerchanshe collects cherries from farmers and processes them through both wet and dry methods. The wet processing involves pulping, fermenting for 36 hours, and then washing. In the dry processing, cherries are sun-dried on raised beds, and an artificial dryer is used when necessary.

The Shakiso Welebu site includes one wet mill and one dry mill with a combined annual production capacity of over 2,000,000 kg of green beans.
