Tore Gelana

 Location - Tore, the administrative town of Gelana Woreda  Altitude - 1700-1900m above sea level

Gelana is one of the woredas in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. It was part of the former Gelana Abaya woreda. Our Tore Gelana site is located at Tore, the administrative town of the woreda. The altitude is 1700 -1900m asl while the mean annual rainfall ranges between 1400-1800mm. Mean annual temperature is 15-28°C. The soil is deep sandy loam with good fertility.

Site decription

Tore coffee is sourced from 963 small-scale farmers who supply 100% of their produce to Kerchanshe Trading PLC. The farmers reside in Jirme, Dango, Chalbesa Kebeles, and Tore town. The coffee flowers in March and April, while the harvest season extends from October to January.

Coffee Type

The coffee is a typical Ethiopian variety with medium-shaped green beans. The indigenous heirloom varietals, which grow wild in Ethiopia, are responsible for unique flavor notes characterized by strong citric acidity, sweet chocolate, and floral/herbal notes of lavender, jasmine, bergamot, and thyme.

Production

There are 6 mills supporting production, including 1 wet mill and 1 dry mill at the main Tore unit, 1 dry mill at Tore Town, 1 wet mill at Giwe sub unit, 1 wet mill at Dango sub unit, and 1 wet mill at Chelbessa sub unit. The annual combined production capacity is about 3,500,000 kg of red cherry.

Processing

Our Tore Gelana site uses a mix of wet and dry processing techniques to preserve the unique flavor profile of the coffee. Kerchanshe Trading PLC manages all aspects of processing to maintain quality.
